Buti Workout

If you read Shape Magazine, you’ve probably already seen Buti mentioned a few times. And for a good reason, too! It’s no joke! These workouts will seriously burn and sculpt!

And it only takes one look at Bizzie (the creator of Buti Fitness) to realize that she’s doing something right:

Keep in mind that Bizzie (whom I now refer to as The Blonde Wonder-Woman) is a very talented yogi, so all of her yoga moves are shown at advanced stages. Just do what you can, modifying when you need to. Please don’t injure yourself. 😉

Today’s workout:

Pick one of these videos to do. Follow it up by completing the other one tomorrow!

Now, get your mat, get your timer (if you’re doing Sculpt), your water, your Big Girl Panties, and LET’S GO!!!

So, how do you feel?*

*sexy, powerful, and totally kick-ass the correct answer 😉 But I’m open to other adjectives 😉

Muscle Blast Ballet and Jazzercise

Last night (Wednesday) I taught my Muscle Blast class at 24 Hour Fitness. Typically, we do a combination of ballet, Pilates, and yoga, with an emphasis on Pilates. As a ramp-up-to-summer, though, I changed it to a slightly different format for 4 weeks. Last night was session numéro un.

While keeping with pliés and curtseys and Pilates arm strengthening, I added in barbells. Oh yeah, I’m that mean. 😉 Plus, what’s a better way to get summer-licious than by making it core and ab focused?

a wide plié stance. And while we typically use chairs, we did not for this class.

Class started with a warmup of pliés, romanian dead lifts, overhead reaches, trunk rotations, more pliés. After that, 5 whole stinking minutes of planks and side planks (with hips dips and toe touches.) Then the torture fun began! Here’s my set list from class last night after the warmup and planks (spending 3:30 per exercise):

  • Curtsey Lunges
  • Weighted Mermaids and Pliés
  • Barbell: Romanian dead lift
  • V-arm circles, forward and backward
  • Barbell: Plié with overhead press
  • Barbell: Bridge lift

Then the last 20 minutes of class was all ABS!

  • crunches
  • bicycle crunches
  • bicycle 7-count pulse crunches
  • hat take-off
  • heels to heaven (straight leg reverse crunch)
  • Passé leg lift
  • V-sit knee pulls
  • V-sit crunchie frogs

the Passé leg lift

Followed by a quick stretch.

Conclusion?

Yowza!!!

I’m sore from last night’s class in my quads, glutes, and obliques. . . And I saw everyone’s facial expressions, so I’m guessing they’re sore, too! 😉 I get paid to torture people for a living! Can life get any better?! 😉

So this morning I joined my aunt, Robin, at Jazzercise. Monday was my first ever Jazzercise class, so I was excited to try it again (today was a different instructor.) And just like everywhere else, different instructors can teach the same thing but it’s a whole different class. That’s one of the reasons why I LOVE LOVE LOVE group exercise! 🙂

The class on Monday and the class today was the traditional Jazzercise class: floor cardio (both high and low impact) that’s dance oriented for 30 minutes, light weights for 15 minutes, and a cool down and stretch. I must say, I worked harder today than I did on Monday, but I’m thinking that it was because today had more complex choreography (though still simple: think along the same lines as Zumba, but not as twirly). I liked the routines more, so I put more energy into it.

this isn’t the class we did, but I totally wish it was!! Yeah, baby!! Grrrr! 😉

this gives you a general idea of what the cardio section of the class is like, tho

(HINT: the best exercise is not what’s a fad at the moment, but what you truly enjoy and are willing to put effort into.)

If you’re interested in trying Jazzercise, click here to search for classes and deals in your area!

My advice: try every form of exercise. Don’t give up on finding something active that you love to do! There’s something out there for everyone!!! And even if you’ve already found your passion, try new things anyways! It’ll keep your muscles activated and make what you love more effective!

So now I’m home, contemplating how I want to fix my breakfast/protein smoothie and ignoring the fact that I need to vacuum. 😉

true story! 😉

What are your exercise plans for today?!

What’s your favorite protein smoothie recipe?!

CrossFit Logic

“The notion that holding a heart rate of 180 bpm for twenty minutes on a bike is good cardio whereas holding 180 bpm for twenty minutes in a circuit of weightlifting is of lesser cardiovascular value is widespread yet ludicrous.”

Greg Glassman, founder of CrossFit, on cardiovascular training

This is always good for us to remember! Even if you take the day off from running (or other traditional cardio exercise), you can still get a great cardio workout from weigh-training. Don’t ever let someone tell you that lunges, squats, and thrusters aren’t cardio! No matter what type of exercise you’re doing, if your heart rate goes up, you’re doing cardio. Simple as that!

I’ll be going for a run this afternoon, and if my schedule allows, Megan‘s yoga class tonight. (You wanna talk about elevated heart rate? Come take Megan’s Power Vinyasa class! Whew!!!) My glutes are a little sore from Saturday’s and Sunday’s runs, but I’d like to get in some speed work today. Also on the docket today: agility cones! I don’t use them enough, so they’re getting lonely. I’ll take ’em out this afternoon and show ’em some love. 😉

What’s your workout today?!

Friday Night Realization

It is at this moment when I realize how incredibly cool and awesome I really am. It’s almost 9pm on a Friday night and I’m sitting at home blogging. Watch out, world! Heather’s gonna tear up the town! Believe it or not, I actually used to be cool. Wow. How the times have changed.

“Pity party. Table for 1.”

On a happier note, I’m doing my first run with Lululemon Santana Row’s Run Club (wow, that’s a mouthful!) tomorrow morning! I’ll have to leave my house about 45 minutes before it starts, but I’m sure it’ll be totally worth it! I’m not a morning person, so getting up early tomorrow will be a challenge. But, again, probably worth it.

It’s going to be my first 5 miler this season, which honestly, I’m a bit worried about.

Last night I went to the gym, intending to do the Zumba class and a 3 mile treadmill run. What actually happened: 30 minutes of Zumba and a 1.14 mile run/walk on the ‘dread’mill.

Zumba was fun, but I could feel my enthusiasm waning, so I wanted to get my run in before I lost my mojo. Once on the treadmill, my left calf said “#&*! you, Heather! Peace out!” When my calves don’t like me, my feet don’t like me. Since I’m really looking forward to Saturday’s long run, it just wasn’t worth it to me to push another 2 miles.

Oh well, the treadmill will always be there to torture me another day.

(Wait, I thought I was supposed to be “on a happier note”. . . wtf, mate)

So in honor of keeping your body happy and healthy for running, I’m sharing 2 yoga videos! Lululemon has made these to help with their half marathon training, so it’s perfect for us! Enjoy!!!

Yoga and running are like olive oil and balsamic vinegar: great apart, but AMAZING when combined! Hope you like these routines!!

I’ll keep you posted on how my first Run Club run goes!!!

What are your plans for this weekend? Any run clubs going on?

Blissed-out yoga body!!!

Is it just me, or does it feel like summer?

Today in yoga class, beautiful Ms. Megan asked us to “pay attention to how your body is feeling”, noting that some areas of our body may “feel blissed-out.” Blissed-out?! I am all for made up words! Awesome! I swear, I had the hardest time not chuckling in class!

But there’s a truth in “blissed-out!” One of the best feelings in the world is to have your legs shaking, your arms jelly, and then melting into the floor during savasana. So today, I’m giving you a yoga routine that will kick your bootay, tone your muscles, and de-stress your Manic Monday! The pictures and descriptions are from Slim Calm Sexy Yoga by Tara Stiles, but I have put together the sequence myself

You will need a mat and water, a wall, and if you’re feeling it, some music. at the end of the workout, i’ve listed some songs that i love to play during my yoga practice

Sequence:

Start on your hands and knees, back in a neutral position, neck nice and long. Hold each position for 3 deep breaths, unless otherwise noted.

So now for some muuuuuuuusic! Here are some songs that I like to listen to while practicing yoga. Remember when I said that I want to teach a Pilates class to movie scores? (if not, click here) Well, the music that I use during yoga is from movie scores. You’re welcome. 😉

So now that your body is Blissed-Out, go out into the world and be your awesome self! ❤

Here we go… again…

Howdy, Ya’ll!

Please pardon my exuberance today. I swear I have a great excuse!

Guess who’s going to Lululemon today?!

Dis girl!!!

I have my eyes set on their new Power Class Tee:

This is showing it in grey black, but I want it in their new purple shade, called Grape…

I get harassed teased all the time about my love for Lululemon, but seriously, have you ever worn their stuff?! Amazeballs!!! My fave piece is probably the Scuba Hoodie, but I love almost everything Lulu!

Just to prove what kind of nut-job I am, I’ve actually switched my college major… I was getting my degree in Kinesiology, but thanks to yours truly wanting a job at Lululemon Corporate, I’ve changed to Business with an emphasis in Marketing. My DREAM job is to work for Lulu in Vancouver, BC as their Director of Community. Working for Lulu, getting the company involved in the community… dream job!

If you’re taking a day off from running or resistance today, try doing this short yoga routine! It’s based upon the concept of the body healing itself, so it’s perfect for a resting day! 🙂

Have any exciting plans today?!

The gift of Yoga and Children

How amazing would it be to roll around on the White House lawn with a bunch of children, Spiderman, Mr. Potato Head, and veterans doing yoga?!?! SERIOUSLY AMAZING, if you ask me!

Yoga is such a great way to release stress, stretch, increase your balance and core strength! I love seeing young children get moving and active and trying new things! Us adults should take a page out of these children’s books and try something new today!

What’s going to be your NEW thing today?! 🙂

So, Monday, we meet again

I can officially say that I am feeling myself again!!!! Yay!!! About damn time… 😉

Today’s agenda is pretty lenient…

#1. Don’t die in yoga class today.

#2. Register to get into the lottery for the Nike Women’s Marathon.

Yes, the marathon. Not the half… the full. If I get in, I’m going to die. Thank goodness my friends don’t have to drive too far to get to San Francisco to pick up my lifeless corpse. Fingers crossed!!!!

In other news:

I’ve also filled out my application to Twin Lakes College to get my massage certification, and I have the paperwork to get pay my business tax… but that’s all stuff that can wait until I’m truly done being sick. 😉 I’ve only got so much gusto today, so I’m not going to waste it on doing something really productive. hehe  I’ve already got the studio space, my fictitious name license, and some equipment, so I can start my own fitness studio soon!!! Yay!!! Exciting things are happening! 😉

What are your plans for today? Any runs that I should be jealous of? 😉

Rainy Day workout

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, everyone!!

Before you head out to the bars or the restaurants or the cook-offs, you need to take care of YOU. So let’s workout! If you’re having weather like I am, going outside just aint gonna happen. Call me a weenie, but if it’s raining outside, my butt is staying inside

So for those of us staying indoors today, here are 2 10-minute workouts that will get your blood pumping and your muscles screaming, followed by flexibility training (aka stretching).

These workouts are part of Exhale Spa’s Core Fusion series. If you haven’t tried them, you’re in for a serious burn!! A blend of pilates, ballet, and yoga, you’re going to get a taste of what professional dancers have to go through. The biggest difference is that you’re doing 20 minutes while do 6 hours. No biggie. 😉

Let’s get our dancer body on!!!

After you do both of these segments, let me know how you liked em, or why you hated em!

(Hey, we all have our opinions, we all like different things, be open to sharing your thoughts!)
